I need some expert help, and would appreciate any feedback on the following problem:

After power outage the machine didn't allow the login. When we checked it , it looked like both disks were completely empty. Luckily, we have a backup machine, and we can restore the disks.

Has anybody seen anything like this before ?
What could cause such a dramatic outcome, and what can be done to prevent further problems ?

I have no clue where I can start looking for explanation. So maybe somebody could help me which files I could take a look at and what are the best steps to perform in my situation ?

Thanks in advance,
Regards
Dennis

i have never heard of disks being wiped due to a power cut... although a power surge could have potentially caused some damage.

If the disks seem to be wiped, i'd buy new ones... i wouldn't ever consider using a disk that was that dodgy, even if it *was* fine to begin with!

Secondly, the only think you can do to protect your systems from this again is to buy a UPS system. Have a look at American Power Conversion (APC)'s web site and find one that's suitable for you.

We have Smart-UPS 3000's where i work, and they support 8 machines easily. We have up to 14 machines running off some of them though.
