Yeah, Gnome is [I think] what you call a 'desktop
environment'. It is compatible with different window managers, some more popular being Sawfish, Enlightenment, Metacity(?), etc. Gnome and KDE are both cool, definitely. I much prefer fvwm2, however. It's simplicity, versatility, and ease of configuration are all winning points for me. I've yet to spend _too_ much time tweaking it, but it is my favorite--for now! |

personally, i'm a sawfish person, but we use MetaCity at work. they're all kinda the same, but i prefer sawfish over metacity anyday!
perhaps you should start a new topic entitled "Favorite Desktop Environment" as well zmerlinz..... :D |

I don't know why other people use fluxbox, but I use it because...
a) It's not a resource hog. B) It's very customizable. c) I like the overall look and feel, it feel much less awkward then some other wms. If you go to http://www.fluxbox.org there is a list of features, which are in essence, reasons why you would want to use fluxbox :) |
