hi ....ok the prob is this have a sagem fast800 and redhat 9. Have installed the drivers for adsl modem and can ping the modem, it also tells me the modem is operational in the shell window. So far so good u may be thinking! my isp (tiscali) uses pppOa and I have installed the driver files for this too...configured files eg vpi, vci, encapsulation. great stuff I hear u saying...the prob starts when I run the ADI_PPP_Go command I check the sys log and it tells me `timeout waiting for PADO packets and config requests, have also had an error message somthing about `child connection` and `modem hanging up on 15` have tried diff methods using peerdns and also autodns, static ip and well just about everything I can think of.............am totally baffled now,
So, if there is anyone that can shed a bit of lite on this as to what I can try next (cept throwing the box through the windoz (no pun intended) I`d be one really happy linux user :D

first of all, i assume your ISP don't support your configuration, right?

it might also be worth posting this question on any support forums you can find for your ADSL modem brand... just for some extra coverage.

Unfortunately, i got rid of ADSL about 1 year ago (to move back to uni) and i had a different router and different provider, so i'm not sure how much help i'm gonna be i'm afraid.

hi fishsponge...the craziest thing about it is tiscali (my isp) supplied the adsl modem and it is supposed to have the fone number programmed into it. Have e-mailed SAGEM + got a mail back from them saying have I checked out the manuals on there website....doh! like I never thought of that  Have even got their disc provided with the darn thing. It would seem the prob lies with the ppp0a config ( have even tried ppp0e just for the heck of it lol).
Another strange thing is when I use the modem with windoze and check out the connection in network properties it tells me it is an asdl modem connected with isdn!?!? although its a bob standard bt line....
anywayz if u or anyone has a flash of inspiration please feel free to share it thanx
Merm

well if it's supposed to come with the number programmed into it, get back to Tiscali and moan until they fix it for you, or tell you exactly what to do. keep pestering them if they've sent you something that's incomplete!

As for connecting thru ISDN, what package on Tiscali are you on? i know thei cheapest "broadband" package is actually only the speed of ISDN, so i hope you ain't on that one, cos it's a rip-off :D

oh dearie me am on the cheapest broadband package  but when all is said and done, sagem have now told me they have tested the modem with rh9 and it works....but bearing in mind the guy who e-mailed me was in france where they use ppp0e for the connection and not ppp0a this could well be the prob ...have tried to log onto tiscali forum to see if i can get any feedback using my winxp conn. and I get internal errors and ie shuts down rofl! will keep on trying to get this sorted out....it seems to be a real issue with sagem and tiscali users ...am not gonna be beaten by this :) at least its a learning curve to explore all the files, folders and modules in linux
