i use Solaris a lot... i have an Ultra 1 at home, and i've just spent 14 months working for Sun on a placement year. Gravity has been working at Sun on a placement year too. I think Gravity's been doing Java, and i've been doing a kinda admin job i guess.

I haven't used AIX before, but i have used linux. Solaris isn't *that* different to linux, when comparing them both to, say, windoze (obviously) but there are a lot of subtle differences between Solaris and Linux. I couldn't list them all here, lol :D

i can *highly* recommend joining the SunManagers mailing list... it's a list full of Sun System Administrators, and they are *incredibly* helpful.

Ask here first though, of course... i may have the answer :D

The most annoying differences I've found between the comercial unix's (Solaris, HPUX) is that they have their own version of most of the basic tools (ie not the GNU ones that you see on Linux) so lots of commands like ls, grep, etc have lots of useful options missing...

Also if you're a bash fan you're probably out of luck, AFAIK IBM and Sun only started shipping it in the last two years - so get used to old school csh
