I recently ran a dist-upgrade in debian using apt, and it updated my copies of libc-client2003debian and (i think) uw-imapd.

I already had the 2003 debian version of libc-client, but this must be an updated copy. I'm not sure which version of uw-imapd i'm running now, or was running previously.

Anyway... i can no longer log into my IMAP server! it just keeps saying "password incorrect".

i had this problem before, and it was because i had configured it to not accept clear-text passwords. i changed it last time by running dpkg-reconfigure, and it asked me if i wanted to enable clear-text or not.

When i upgraded a couple of days ago, it never asked me whether i wanted to accept them or not, it simply asked which IMAP protocol i wanted to use (imap2, imap3 or imap4).

has anyone else had this problem since an upgrade? How can i fix it?

Thanks in advance...

figured it out... it now uses encrypted passwords by default... so i had to somehow enable clear-text passwords for IMAP again. a bad idea, i know, but the only option i have at the moment. i can't be bothered to set up SSL on my home machine at the moment.

Anyway... all i had to do was edit "/etc/c-client.cf" so it contained the following:
CODE
I accept the risk
set disable-plaintext nil

thanks to everyone on the debian mailing list who helped solve this issue... :D
